Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need a permit?

One of the first things an unlicensed or unscrupulus contractor will try to do is convince you that you don't need a permit or that it is an expensive part of the project.

The most obvious answer is yes because it is illegal for a contractor to conceal electrical wiring or plumbing pipes without permits and inspections by county officials.

But more importantly, it is one of the best ways to protect your investment. First, contractors must have a current license in order to obtain a permit. The electrical wiring and plumbing is inspected to ensure all applicable codes and quality issues are complied with.

Because the electrical, plumbing, and HVAC contractors are also required to be licensed, you are protected by their insurance and warranties, also.

It is the Travis Renovations Company policy to obtain all necessary permits and county inspections required for your project.

How long will my project take to complete?

  • Finished Basements: Our average finished basement with bath takes approximately 75 days to complete.
  • Room Additions: Room additions will take 90 days for a single story on block foundation.

Our construction schedule is Monday - Friday, 7:30 - 4:00. We expect to have someone working on your project everyday. There will be times when we are waiting for inspections, or one phase of construction has been completed and we are waiting for material deliveries, but we will keep these delays to a minimum, and they will not affect the completion date.

How much does it cost?

There are a lot of variables that determine cost. Although we don't price our projects using a pre-set square feet cost, an average 1,000 square foot basement project with 3 rooms and a full bath will cost between $35-$40 per square foot.

Of course size is the #1 factor. Other factors include number of rooms, closets, and doors, size and fixtures in bathrooms. Lighting and flooring choices play a large part also.

Options such as wet bars, saunas or steam showers, cedar closets, etc. also increase costs. To reduce costs, the first thing to do is reduce options, then reduce size or number of rooms (less walls and doors). The bathroom will add to/or reduce the cost approximately $7,000.

Room additions average $125 - $135 per square foot. Some of the factors affecting cost are the number of windows or skylights and flooring.
